To contribute my bit to the Internet community:
I recently bougth the Sony Camcorder SR290. Great camcorder, just one problem. The mpeg2 format that it generates does not play automatically in Windows Media Player. Only tool that plays the movies is the Sony Picture Motion Browser that is delivered with the camera.
This is because Media Player is missing a codec for mpeg2. You can use the mpeg2 codec from K-Lite. Get the full version.
Make sure to tick the mpeg2 box when installing and your widescreen high quality camcorder movies will look just fine! Maybe Sony can provide this information WITH the camcorder in the future, so I don't have to spend Christmas looking for the codec...
By the way Sony also generates a .modd file with every movie. You don't need it. It is for use in Motion Picture Browser (love it).Labels: codec, K-Lite, sony, SR290, windows media player
