Life size and happiness
Isaac and me are very good friends, though he is a cat. We get along real good, though we have very different lives. I don't know whether there is an existing term for it, but the size of his live seems much smaller than the size of my life, I'm not talking years here.
His awareness of space and time is smaller than mine. He lives in the here and now: I need to sharpen my nails. Ah, there's a couch! I want to go outside. Though I have just been outside and it was raining! And on the other side there's me with my Outlook agenda and Tomtom device, just to name two space and time awareness enhancers.
One could state that Isaac-space (in square meters) * Isaac-time (in hours) < Arie-space * Arie-time. Expressing our lives in square-meter-hours makes his life smaller than mine. But though I'm the bigger component in this expression it does not guarantee my life is better than his... I wonder whether there is a relation between life size and happiness. This ought to be investigated, both intra and inter species. For example, is a human with a smaller life happier than someone with a larger life and are cats happier than humans?Labels: happiness, life size
