Atlantis, found?
When I was reading Adrian Gilbert's The End of Time it occurred to me to look for Atlantis using Google Earth (THE GREAT, man I love this program!).
As is already described by Plato, Atlantis must have been somewhere out of Gibraltar to the west. Using Google Earth I looked for raises in tectonic plates. As anyone could have noticed The Azores fit the bill perfectly. This is a region out of Gibraltar to the west where the ocean floor is higher than elsewhere. Also it is close to tectonic fault lines, making tectonic plate movements, e.g. downwards, more likely.
In fact, the theory of The Azores being the sunken land of Atlantis is known as the O'Brien thesis, posted already back in 1985. Here is a great site about the research for The Azores being the last pointy, dry remains of Atlantis.
Hmm, maybe not so sure after all. Two words: Bimini Road.Labels: adrian gilbert, atlantis, google earth
